Last week, my friend and I spent a truly wonderful day wandering through the rolling hills between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, soaking in the beauty of the landscape and enjoying exceptional local cuisine.
In the afternoon, we visited Andreola winery where we explored a selection of Valdobbiadene Rive DOCG wines at the Eroico Store. In the Experience Room, the team warmly guided us through their philosophy and passion for winemaking.
There could have been no better way to end such a relaxing day than on the terrace overlooking the vineyards, watching the sun set with a glass of Valdobbiadene Superiore di Cartizze DOCG in hand — Cartizze by Andreola, of course — a wine of remarkable elegance.
Thank you, Stefano Pola, and the entire team for your warm hospitality.

This is one of those moments when everything you’ve imagined comes together heavenly better that you could have imagined. When after a long working day you go for a longer walk to refresh yourself and gather your thoughts and then you start thinking about your dinner. You are alone at home so you can cook whatever you want. No wife, no kids just you 🤩
Somehow, I came to the idea of salmon with some vegetables, sweet potato in a coconut milk so I needed to grab coconut milk and fresh salmon from the shop where I also found a perfect Portuguese white wine pairing. An unforgettable end of the day.

Wonderful indigenous pinela grape that grows only in Vipava valley. Usually it is produced as a fresh and fruity wine but this one has 24 hours of maceration and 4 month on the lees. Just wonderful 👍🏻
Congrats to Petrič Urban for making this pinela with a bit more character! I love it.

At the end of 2025, I got the chance to talk with Isabelle Legeron, founder of RAW WINE, during the RAW WINE fair in Berlin — celebrating a decade of bringing natural winemakers and wine lovers together in the German capital.
In this conversation, we discuss how the natural wine scene has evolved over the past 10+ years, why education and farming matter more than ever, and how ethical, low-intervention winemaking resonates with a new generation of drinkers. Isabelle shares her journey from Master of Wine to global advocate for living wines, explains why natural wine will likely remain a niche — but an important one — and reflects on the economic pressures facing growers today.

Bjana is the sparkling house of Miran and Petra Sirk, who bottled their first Bjana Brut in 1990. What began with a small release quickly grew, powered by decades of patient work, respect for nature, and the blending of cultural heritage with modern winemaking knowledge. The name comes from the village of Biljana, a picturesque corner of Brda where the family has built one of Slovenia’s most admired sparkling estates. Their home, the 13th-century Dorišče manor with the oldest cellar in Brda, anchors the estate’s identity—its four proud columns now inspiring the Bjana logo. In 2020, Bjana took a bold step forward with a new modern cellar and a beautiful tasting room with panoramic views of Brda. From Rebula to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, their méthode traditionnelle wines unite freshness, depth, and elegance, expressing both the Alpine–Adriatic spirit and Brda’s timeless charm.
Our estate lies in Istria, in a small village Krasica, south of the town of Buje in northern part of Istrian peninsula, close to Slovenian and Italian border. The property encompasses 10 hectares of vineyards and 5 hectares of olive trees. Around 200m above sea level, the vineyards enjoys plenty of sunshine as well as cool and salty sea breezes coming from Adriatic some 10 km to the west. The soil here is limestone flysch – its low fertility and good drainage provide the perfect amount of stress for our old vines. Our principal goal is to enhance our terroir. Although we have some international varietals, we grow mainly native grapes and olives. Our work in the vineyards is all about quality, not quantity. The density of culture system is high (5,700 plants / hectare) and the yields are kept low. All our production has been certified organic from the beginnings of the estate. We do not use any systemic treatments such as herbicides, insecticides, or fungicides. The fertilization is minimal and occasional, using only organic and natural manure. After coming to our cellar, the grapes are vinified in a natural way, with spontaneous fermentation on the skins and without the addition of enzymes, selected yeasts or malolactic bacteria. The wines are mellowed in wooden barrels of various sizes, with a long stay on the lees. After nearly two years the wines are bottled without micro or sterile filtering. We believe that no year is "good" or "bad" if you work in a natural way - the vintages are just different. Some are easier, and some are harder. They depend on seasonal climatic factors that determine the absolute value of the wine: its quality.
My name is Zmagoslav Petrič. Guerila is a product of my ideas, dreams, aspirations and stubbornness. I was born in 1956 into a family of farmers. That same year, my father Jožef received a prize for his grapes of an old Pinela variety. Coincidence or fate? Childhood memories take me back to the time when I was working on a small farm, to the vineyard, and into the cellar. To a time of humility, sincerity, responsibility, respect and love for the earth, nature and neighbour. My father subconsciously passed these values onto me and shaped me into a steady, strong person. I am now passing this on to my family, colleagues and people who surround me. They say that you take a man from the farm, but you can never take the farm from his heart… In 2005, a decision had matured in me to found Guerila, a biodynamic wine-growing farm in the village of Planina near Ajdovščina in the Vipava valley. Based on my own research, I selected the best spots and planted vineyards using local varieties. Guerila wines are a reflection of biodynamic cultivation and the Vipava wine cellar tradition. We harvest the grapes for our wines ourselves. Grape picking is done manually and, whenever possible, on the blossoming day or the fruiting day. We wait for the grapes to fully mature, as healthy and mature grapes are a prerequisite for biodynamic cellaring. Fermentation is exclusively spontaneous, as is biological de-acidification. We bottle without filtration. All tasks in the cellar are performed in accordance with the biodynamic calendar.
Veralda Winery is located on the most famous wine growing position of northern Istria, on the famous Buje hills stretching between Buje and Brtonigla. Being the surname Visintin very widespread in Istria, the name of the winery has been taken after the name of the vineyard located right next to the wine cellar. The family tradition began in 1938 on about ten acres of land that included vineyards and other crops, until the family specialized in growing vines and olives. The winery is proud to have produced the best red wine in the world, which today represents the only and most respected wine award in Croatia, the "Platinum Best in Show" reward, received in London in 2016. With this recognition, the Teran variety and the Istrian region have been put on the very top of the world wine scene. Veralda has been the driver of innovation in the development of indigenous varieties, proved among other things by the sensational discovery of the first Rose' by Teran, which has soon become a style in the production of Istrian Rose, as well as of sparkling wine, giving Teran an elegance and a whole new dimension in pairing in an oenological and gastronomic sense. Therefore, we can say that Veralda is an example of authenticity, tradition and innovation.

Tuscany is one of Italy’s most renowned wine regions, celebrated for its strong identity, tradition, and exceptional wines. Its wine-growing areas offer a wide spectrum, from everyday wines to globally acclaimed icons.

Wine region shaped by extremes, fire and ash, altitude and exposure, abandonment and revival. Once among the most productive vineyard areas in the world, Etna fell into near silence for decades before re-emerging in the 1990s as one of Italy’s most closely watched regions. Today, its wines reflect more than volcanic soils and native grapes. They tell a story of tension between tradition and global attention, and of a mountain still deciding what kind of future it wants to claim.

In the Brda region, pig slaughtering (koline) was once one of the most important events of the year – a time of shared work, knowledge, respect for food, and togetherness. From these roots emerges the first edition of the From Tail to Snout Festival, reviving the tradition of using the entire pig and honoring food in the way our nonoti (grandfathers) and none (grandmothers) once did.The festival is created with the wish of becoming a tradition itself. Its timing also carries symbolic meaning – in folk tradition, it is believed that around 19th March, the feast of St. Joseph, salami are fully mature. This is the time when salami are ready for the table, the pantry is opened, and food is shared among family, neighbors, and friends. The Heart of Brda Cuisine in One PlaceThe festival will bring together Brda restaurateurs, each partnering with their selected local winemaker.
